Absolute Solitude is a comprehensive selection of the prose poems from Dulce Maria Loynaz's Poems Without Names and the posthumous Autumn Melancholy. First published in Spain in 1953, Poems Without Names achieved both critical and popular success. Ostracized by Castro's government after the Cuban Revolution in 1959, Loynaz lived in seclusion in her Havana home, unpublished and virtually forgotten, until she was rediscovered at the age of 90 upon receiving Spain's Cervantes Prize in 1992, placing her in the ranks of such winners as Jorge Luis Borges and Octavio Paz.
